Bumbershoot '05

By 2005, Bumbershoot had become a deeply embedded part of Seattle’s cultural rhythm, a Labor Day weekend tradition that brought together artists, audiences, and creative communities from across the region.

Produced by One Reel, the festival continued its transformation of Seattle Center into a vibrant multidisciplinary arts campus. Music remained a major attraction, drawing large audiences to the outdoor stages, but Bumbershoot’s defining feature was still its broad cultural scope.

The mid-2000s were a time when festivals across the country increasingly focused on large music lineups, but Bumbershoot continued to maintain its broader artistic umbrella. The event remained committed to presenting multiple art forms side by side, encouraging audiences to wander through Seattle Center and discover something unexpected.

Local and Northwest artists continued to play an important role in the festival’s programming, reinforcing Bumbershoot’s long-standing connection to the city’s creative community.

More than thirty years after Festival ’71, Bumbershoot remained what it had always aimed to be: a big public gathering for creativity, curiosity, and shared cultural experience.
