Overview
Bumbershoot '07
By 2007, Bumbershoot had firmly entered its fourth decade, continuing to adapt as the national festival landscape evolved. Admission increased to $40 a day or $100 for 3-day weekends.
Across the United States, large-scale music festivals were becoming increasingly prominent, drawing attention for their blockbuster lineups and massive crowds. Bumbershoot, produced by One Reel, continued to navigate this changing environment while maintaining the broad artistic umbrella that had defined the event since its earliest years.
Each Labor Day weekend, Seattle Center once again transformed into a vibrant hub of creative activity. Music remained a major attraction, with nationally touring performers appearing on outdoor stages, but the festival’s identity remained intentionally multidisciplinary.
One of Bumbershoot’s defining qualities remained its sense of discovery. Festivalgoers might arrive for a headline concert but spend the day exploring smaller venues, encountering experimental theater, independent films, or emerging Northwest artists.
By 2007, Bumbershoot had established itself not only as one of Seattle’s longest-running cultural traditions but also as one of the few large festivals in the country that continued to present such a wide spectrum of artistic disciplines.
More than thirty-five years after Festival ’71, the umbrella remained wide, welcoming audiences into a shared celebration of creativity at the heart of the city.
