Bumbershoot '24
In 2024, Bumbershoot continued its revival under the stewardship of New Rising Sun and Third Stone, in partnership with Seattle Center.
Following the festival’s relaunch the previous year, 2024 focused on strengthening the new model: a return to Bumbershoot’s multidisciplinary roots while refining the scale and structure needed to sustain the event long-term. Organizers emphasized the festival’s original identity as a broad cultural gathering, bringing together music, visual art, film, performance, culinary programming, and community participation.
The approach continued to prioritize Pacific Northwest artists and cultural organizations while pairing them with national touring performers. Programming across the Seattle Center campus once again included exhibitions, installations, and interactive districts alongside the festival’s music stages.
More than fifty years after Festival ’71, the festival was no longer simply returning; it was rebuilding. The focus in 2024 was on restoring Bumbershoot as a civic arts gathering that reflects Seattle’s creative ecosystem, reconnecting the event to the artists, institutions, and audiences that shaped its history.
